CyberCart has a built in referrer (also known as an affiliate program) function that allows merchant to track where customers link to their site from and allow the referrer to see a summary of orders resulting from their link. This is for sites that wish to compensate other websites for adding links from their site to the merchant site. This function can also be set to send a copy of the order to the referrer as well. You can sign up as an affiliate for CyberCart here! How It WorksThe referrer puts a link to the "enter" subroutine of CyberCart. When someone clicks on the link, a cookie is set identifying the referrer, and then is redirected to the starting page of the merchant. As a backup in case the customer has cookies turned off, the IP address is also noted along with the referrer. The referrer id can also be passed as a form variable through the CyberCart HTML pages, which total insures that the referrer will be credited with the sale, but this requires the each referrer to have their own set of CyberCart pages. And finally, a returning customer will also be noted by their name, with the referrer being credited with repeat sales. When the customer orders something, CyberCart logs the referrer information, if present. The referrer function is also set up as a two-tiered system, with a primary affiliate, who can also sign-up their own referrers on a second level. The amount/percent of commission can be set separately for primary and secondary referrers. The commisions can be set up as a flat rate per order, a percentage of the order total, or a flat/percentage rate on an item specific basis (a commission.dat file contains the all item codes, primary referrer rate/percentage, and secondary referrer rate/percentage). HTML pages for referrers and secondary referrers to sign up are also provided as referrerapp.html and secondapp.html, respectfully. These will allow referrers to sign up automatically for the referral program for a merchant. The CyberCart Administration script allows the merchant to view a summary of orders by referrer and also an overall summary of all referrers. The referrer can also connect to a "summary" script that allows them to see a log of orders that resulted from their link (only the order number, date, and net and gross totals are shown to the referrer). |
